Mary Quant's Ginger Group line, created in 1963, was born out of her compulsion to make her clothing accessible to a wider audience at a lower price range. In her boutique Bazaar she was known for pulling influence from London's youth culture and creating out of the box pieces inspired by mods, beatniks, and dancers. The designers at her boutique were almost all made by hand by Mary herself, and thus came with a higher price tag. Her first collection with Ginger Group featured a "ginger" palette of red and orange, and this sweater may have been included in that first collection! It has a whimsical, yet easy to wear, design with soft acrylic knot into a simple cardigan base with space age style cap sleeves.
